LOS ANGELES – City Councilmember Mike Bonin released the following statement today regarding the decision to not prosecute the police officer who fatally shot Brendon Glenn on May 5, 2015:
“The District Attorney’s decision not to file charges in the shooting death of Brendon Glenn is baffling, disturbing, and — by any common sense standard — wrong.
“The LAPD’s own investigation found the shooting unjustified. The civilian Police Commission found the shooting unjustified. The officer’s own partner told investigators he did not understand why the officer opened fire. Police Chief Charlie Beck took the extraordinary step of recommending the DA file criminal charges.
“Justice cannot be served if justice is not sought. A jury should have heard this case, seen the videotape, weighed the evidence and been given the opportunity to render a verdict.”
