Councilmember’s Motion Offering Reward for Information in Unsolved Murder Case Unanimously Approved
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles City Council today unanimously approved a motion by Councilmember Mike Bonin offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the conviction of the murderers responsible for the death of 25-year-old Del Rey resident Francisco Javier Ayala.
On Saturday, August 17, Ayala was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant or assailants at roughly 12:30am while sitting in his car in the Westside community of Del Rey. According to LAPD West Bureau Homicide detectives, Ayala, who had been visiting with his family earlier in the evening, had no gang affiliations and there was no apparent motive for the crime. Detectives have not received any promising leads and asked for the reward in the hope that it will motivate witnesses to come forward.
“This is a heinous crime and a tragedy for not only Francisco’s family, but for the entire community and City of Los Angeles,” said Bonin. “If anyone knows anything that can help the LAPD solve this case, I hope and pray that they will help us bring those responsible to justice.”
The case is being investigated by West Bureau Homicide Detectives Luis Carranza and Kevin Pierce. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact West Bureau Homicide at 213-382-9470. Anonymous tips can be directed to “Crime Stoppers” at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
